Like every other electrical appliance that has made life simpler, a water heater is just one out of the long list of electrical we cannot stay without, especially when there’s a chilly winter coming around. So what happens when the heater you use starts leaking, what to do when to solve the problem of water leaking.
Although it is the forte of a specialized person to do all the repair work and stuff, but some simple stuff can be done on own and thus little problems will not force you to spend money on calling the plumber, paying money, and finding out all he did was move a joint or join a pipe.
So the task begins with the visual assessment of the heater. Begin with looking out for any traces or signs of water or short circuit on the thermostat of the water heater. Maybe some pungent burning smell or anything like that. Net step is to check the circuit ie the supply circuit. Use some electric tester to see if the circuit carries any voltage. Turn on the automatic breakers and then recheck the voltage on circuit, if the tester indicates the flow of electricity again, then that will mean that the problem is out of your proportion and you need to call the technician right away. Mean while, keep the protection key turned on and make sure it is not used.
It is also advised to keep replacing the thermostat of the heater and the heater itself to avoid any further problem of the water heater leaking. Also the problem of the water heater leaking can be kept at bay by getting a technician to regularly check and service your water heater, particularly if the water heater you are using has been in use for more than 5-6 years and as such has run quite a period of its expected life time. Water heater leaking is not that troublesome an issue, and can be dealt with normally.
In case the water heater leaking is going on, but the heater works perfectly otherwise, the easiest and most effective approach is to locate the leakage by lifting the cap and see any corrosion of breakage which is causing the leaking. However, if the leakage is occurring on account of the inner wall damaged, again it is out of your expertise and you’ll need to call a technician.
