There can be more to digging for water than many people realize. Very thin plastic could become damaged in the process.
Tube well casing contains all of the pumping parts. PVC piping is typically used in this situation. This type contains the inlet, the cylinder, pistol valves and the rising main which is commonly referred to as the “down the hole” type of hand pump. For these applications, PVC pipes are both cheap and inert and provide sufficient support from potential borehole collapse. PVC is less heavy than steel.
Concrete piping used for soft earth. In some locations the soil if very soft. It might be composed of mostly dirt with loose rocks or gravel, and it will not provide sufficient support without some type of tubing used. Concrete pipes that interlock, much like those used in building roads and driveways for a culvert support, can be used to support the borehole from possible collapse.
In some locations of the world, the only available source of this life sustaining liquid is deep beneath the surface of the earth.
