Although nearly all of these have been updated with modern appliances, it is only inevitable that these homes will run into plumbing issues – and when a plumbing problem strikes, most people just aren’t prepared to deal with it. Especially when it comes from out of no-where and you’ve never had to call a plumber before. It’s common for people to get panicked at this time; what do they do? Who do they call? How do they decide which plumber is best suited for the job?

You’ll find in most cities that there are very many plumbers to choose from. The following are some great ways to narrow down your search in order to end up with a great plumber. Remember, if you have to find a local plumber once, chances are you’ll need to do it again at some point. So, it will be in your best interest to find a contractor that you get along with as you very well may be seeing them again in the near future.
Use your social networks
You’d have to be living under a rock to have not heard of Facebook, Twitter, or Google+. You can use your social network to find a plumber, simply ask your friends or post a public message asking if anyone knows of a plumber that can help you out. Depending on how many friends you have you may find your results vary, but if you have a lot of friends that are in a similar position as you chances are you’ll find someone who has had to call on a plumber before so this is a decent way to at least start writing a short list of plumbers that you’d like to look further into.

Looking for online for a plumber is of course a very good option. There are quite a few plumbers with websites and so you can just do a few simple searches. Besides the obvious searches you can conduct some more in-depth searches to reveal better results, for instance “licensed plumbers” will give you some decent results instead of just a two word search. So be creative when using the search engines as you can put a moments extra work into your search query to make your results much more targeted and easier to sift through.
Look into your plumbers credentials
It’s always important to make sure you’re dealing with a reputable contractor. After all, there are quite a few contractors out there that will over-charge, and make work up on the spot in order to get your to pay them more money. It’s actually been recorded on video by a documentary on CBC; there were plumbers making work up for a task that was very simple to fix in order to charge a higher amount for the job. So do your best to check into all of your plumbers credentials and call up their references as well.
Additionally, you can check on the internet to get an idea of how their services are. Websites such as the Better Business Bureau, Homestars, and Yelp are all great sources to find reviews on contractors. It’s always a good idea to use some judgment however, since it is not uncommon that fake bad reviews are written. At a bare minimum make sure you are given a copy of all insurance, licenses, and associated documentation that displays their credentials clearly so you can keep it for your records.
Finding a plumber is not all that hard
Finding a great plumbing contractor doesn’t have to be a headache, with a bit of work you can find a great plumber that will take care of your plumbing needs for years to come. But, it needs to be stressed always make sure you do your utmost to ensure that your chosen plumber is in-fact a licensed, insured plumbing contractor. You will be the one losing out in the end if something goes wrong, and you plumber is not who they claim to be.
