As the Government’s Warm Front Grants scheme re-launches, demand for plumbers is set to skyrocket, making this a great time to train as a plumber.

Warm Front, the Government’s grant scheme, was created with the intention of encouraging homeowners improve their home efficiency by upgrading or replacing boilers and heating measures. The scheme is due to reopen for applications in April of this year, having been hugely successful when it was introduced in 2010. The relaunch of the scheme is likely to dramatically increase the demand for plumbers (who are already in demand without the scheme) and those interested in a plumbing career are likely to want to train now to capitalize on this opportunity.

Initially introduced by the Government to provide funding for people on disability or certain income-related benefits, the Warm Front scheme is designed to facilitate installation and upgrading of heating and insulation measures. Generally, the Warm Front grants provide homeowners’ with funds of up to £ 3,500 for conventional gas-fired household heating. The demand this will create for qualified and professional plumbers and heating engineers is likely to prove a popular attraction for those just starting out on careers as plumbers or embarking on plumber training courses.

Launched last year, the Warm Front scheme proved fantastically popular and the scheme’s entire budget was swiftly allocated to homeowners. Continuing this year, applications for the scheme are anticipated to be accepted in April. If last year scheme is anything to go by, the Warm Front scheme will be wildly competitive with homeowners eager to receive the funding for their homes. The end result is all good news for plumbers as higher demand and more jobs increases the amount they can charge and is likely to keep them busy earning money!

Why will demand for plumbers soar?

Warm front grants will provide homeowners with funding for a range of upgrades and improvements for the home, many of which are taught on plumber training courses :

Loft insulation

Draught proofing

Cavity wall insulation

Hot water tank insulation

Gas, electric or oil heating

For plumbers who have undergone the relevant training, this presents an exciting opportunity as they will be able to provide homeowners with these home improvements.

Even without any change in the market, the average plumber currently can earn up to £ 25,000 working self-employed on their own, and some top earners even earn up to £ 40,000! Of course, the basic foundation of a successful career is getting the proper training and support.
