Impianto idraulico fai-da-te: sostituzione della toilett

Translating…

If your toilet is leaking, cracked, using gallons of water with each flush or does not fit with the look of your house, this is the right time to replace it. Replacing your toilet yourself requires physical strength to lift and maneuver the commode, as well as handiness with tools. Most of the time, a handy do-it-yourselfer can get the job done within a few hours.

In order to replace your toilet, you will first need to gather some basic plumbing tools and supplies. At the minimum, you will need a hacksaw, flat head screwdriver, pliers, an open-end wrench set, a level and a bucket. Gloves and old towels or rags may come in handy as well during this project.

First, locate the water shutoff valve, which is usually on the wall behind the toilet. The valve connects the water supply to the toilet. Turn the valve to the right (clockwise) to shut off the water supply to the toilet.

Empty the water in the toilet’s tank by either siphoning it out or flushing the toilet. If flushing the toilet, place a bucket underneath the tank where it connects to the waterline. Take off the plastic nut securing the waterline to the toilet tank by turning left (counterclockwise). Remove the waterline from the toilet slowly, allowing the water to drain into the bucket.

Using a flat head screwdriver, remove the bolt caps. Next, remove the nuts and bolts on the toilet using the open end wrench.

Put towels on the floor in front of the toilet. Lift the old toilet up, which will break the wax seal between the toilet and floor.

Remove the old wax ring and plastic ring from the flange, and then remove the old bolts and bolt clips. Now you can install your new toilet.

Place the new toilet bolts onto the flange and attach a clip to each bolt. Assemble the toilet tank onto the bowl and secure with tank bolts through the inside of the tank. Put a washer over each bolt and a nut on each washer and tighten each bolt.

Put a new wax ring, wax side up, onto the flange. Line up the bolts on the flange with the bolts on the bottom of the toilet bowl. Place the toilet onto the wax ring, with the bolts going through the holes. Sit on the toilet to seal the wax ring in place.

Put a washer and a nut on each floor bolt and tighten. Place new plastic bolt cover clips onto each bolt. Trim the length of the bolts with a hacksaw. Cap each bolt. Reattach the waterline, turn on the water supply and flush the toilet to test for leaks.
